Similar to how there are many who mourn a superstar who has died far from their prime, the death of her was untimely and shattered the progress of her career. Selena's tragic death by shooting caused a reaction in the Latino community that was similar to reactions following the deaths of Elvis Presley or John Lennon. She was an incredibly popular singer among Latinos in North America. But her music touched both the young and old. A flamboyant sexy stage performer sometimes hailed as Selena the Latina Madonna Selena was nonetheless thought of as a role model on stage she was a family-oriented active in anti-drug campaigns and AIDS awareness campaigns.
